Bringing Back Extinct Species

  1. I believe that we should not bring back species that have become extinct. First of all, these creatures went extinct for environmental reasons, so there is no way to guarantee their survival. If such creatures die right or soon after birth, the pursuit of bringing them back becomes irrelevant. Secondly, the re-introduction of such animals could ruin ecosystems, disrupt food-chains, and drive other species extinct. These animals are not a part of the order, and haven’t been recently enough to have a set part. Thirdly, the money and resources used for resurrection of these animals could be just as easily used to help save those animals that have become endangered.

  2. I also believe that we should not bring back extinct species. While the notion of doing this seems very cool and we could possibly learn many things about the creature and its environment, it could be very harmful to the entire biosphere. Any time you enter a foreign creature into a habitat where it doesn't really belong, it throws off the balance of the entire ecosystem. It eats food which at least one other species also consumes, which in turn makes the other species' population decrease, and every creature above that on the ladder's population will decrease due to having less energy traveling through each level of the ecosystem. Also, with animals such as the wooly mammoth pictured, you would be hard pressed to find a predator for an animal so massive and strong.
